It's disappointing to have to modify things at a system level to get it to work, and the lag is still too bad to want to work directly on anything on the drive [on a Mac anyway}. If youre looking for a way to store media and access it when your PC is off, the My Book Live will do the job beautifully. For anything else I would look elsewhere, even after the modifications. I have switched to using Chronosync and scheduler and it works well.So, overall, For backups it's great, and fantastic value.

I have amassed so much media that I have filled up a 2TB portable drive within months. Latency is not quite so horrible, and throughputs have measurably improved.
